  • Maryville Heritage Museum—N 38-43.986 W 089-57.375 128 E. Zupan St, Maryville, IL 62062

    The starting point for this geocaching tour, the Maryville Heritage Museum works to give public access to Maryville’s local history. The museum is housed in the old firehouse which was built in 1916.

 

  • St. John’s Lutheran Church—N 38-43.608 W 089-56.903 7201 W. Main St, Maryville, IL 62062

    St. John’s Lutheran Church has roots that trace back to the earliest German settlers of the Pleasant Ridge area in the early 1840’s.

 

  • Interurban Railway Station—N 38-44.016 W 089-57.376 2814 N. Center St, Maryville, IL 62062 (Now Parker Law)

    The Interurban Railway Station has been replaced by Parker Law. A brick building with arch detailing above the windows, this building served as a turnaround point for the electric cars coming in from neighboring communities.

    Buffalo Park has always served as a gathering place for the citizens of Maryville. It was often used as a prime location for evening dances.

 

  • Mary Krome Lange’s headstone—N 38 43.370 W 089-58.540 Across the road from St. John’s Lutheran Church

    Here in the Old Krome Cemetery lies Maria Krome Lange, wife of C.W.F. Lange. She is the namesake of the Village of Maryville.

 

  • Drost Park—N 38-43.596 W 089-56.937 Parkview Drive, Maryville, IL 62062

    A jewel for the Maryville community, Drost Park is so named because of former mayor John Drost. He acquired the property for the good of the community.

 

  • Rails to Trails—N 38-43.424 W 089-57.166 Parkview Lane, Maryville, IL 62062

    This spot is where the trains that serviced mine #1 and mine #2, which is directly to your left, would load and haul coal. These railways were repurposed by Madison County Transit to serve as a bike path for the community.

  • Donk Brothers Mine Entrance #2—N 38-43.425 W 089-57.170 6320 E Main St, Maryville, IL 62062

      Sealed for safety reasons, mine entrance #2 is still visible here. The concrete you see is what is left over from the mine’s he         heyday.

 

  • Leone & Sons Grocer—GPS N38-43.248 W 089-57.235
    2114 S Center St, Maryville, IL 62062 (Now Turning Pointe Academy)

    Leone & Sons Grocer was an indispensable business for the Village of Maryville. One of a few grocery stores, Leone & Sons allowed customers to buy smaller more affordable portions of food during hard times.

 

•  Piccholdi's Confectionery—(add Location)

   First picchholdi's store, named Anton Picchioldi (Now American Legion Building) 11 South Donk St.

   They  rebuilt the store in brick on Center street, and renamed it Picchioldi & Sons

    A gas station was built on it called Maryville Garage. The location has served as a number of community businesses. What         used to be Piccholdi’s Confectionery, which serviced the community during the Depression Era, was once rented out to the           US Postal Service and was the post office until the current one was built .
